In 2012 Kamui Kobayashi set the only fastest F1 race lap of his career and, more importantly, finished on the podium for the only time in his F1 career at the Japanese Grand Prix, 22 years after the last podium finish by a Japanese at his home Grand Prix (Aguri Suzuki in 1990 in a Lola).

In 2012 Sergio Perez set his first fastest race lap (Monaco) and took his first F1 podium (Malaysia, followed by two more podiums that year).
